Remember what summer was like when you were a kid?
For school aged children it was the best part of the year. Time out of school was like a long-term recess. And though recess is fun, it still required supervision and learning. That’s where Summer Camp entered and it still does today for thousands of kids.
Summer Camp provides arts and crafts, music, dance, field trips and play! Kids get to spend time in peer learning through team activities. But there are many kids who miss the opportunity of summer camp. The simple logistics of costs make it impossible for some families to put their children in Summer Camp.
In the San Fernando Valley 15.8% of the community live below the poverty line. Poverty rates are highest for families headed by single women, especially if they’re African American or Hispanic. These families struggle to make sure the basics are taken care of so Summer Camp becomes a luxury item that they cannot afford. And when kids aren’t in Summer Camp, they’re normally home alone – susceptible to trouble from all sorts of other areas.
This crowdfunding campaign is to give 25 kids an opportunity to attend Summer Camp. For only $17 a day, Hope Community Development Center provides Camp Hope from June 9th to August 8th and kids can be kids again, enjoying the act of play and having summer fun.
When you make a gift for Camp Hope you are giving a child a chance to experience what every child deserves – a chance to play.
